What Is Capoeira
Our Class
In your first class you will learn the simple techniques (fighting stance Ginga) which are the foundation of the way we move. You can expect a challenging and yet empowering workout. Moves and body positions you've never seen before but will be obtained with natural progression and continued practice.
About Us
Capoeira Evolução Kansas City, founded in 2023 by Contramestre Negro, is the first flagship school connected to the Austin headquarters established in 1992. Led by Mestre Metido, we bring a fun, healthy, family-friendly environment to the KC community. Our mission is simple: share the beauty of Capoeira and build an inclusive space where people of all ages can experience this powerful, dynamic art.
FAQ
Classes are either 2 hours or 1 hour and 45 mins. Bring a towel and prove to yourself you can do it!
Capoeira offers a unique blend of fitness, culture, and community. It builds full-body strength, flexibility, balance, and endurance while teaching practical self-defense through agile, fluid movement. Students also learn Afro-Brazilian music, rhythm, and Portuguese, connecting deeply with Capoeira’s rich cultural roots. Above all, Capoeira fosters confidence, creativity, and a supportive community that inspires personal growth.
NO, All you need is the will and commitment to better yourself and try something new
Injury is a possibility in everyday life—you can twist an ankle just by stepping off a curb the wrong way. If fear is holding you back, Capoeira is worth trying. In Capoeira, we learn to move with awareness, to dodge, and to avoid taking blows. It teaches confidence, agility, and control, helping you navigate both training and life with more ease and resilience.
Our Kansas group is fairly new, so class sizes tend to be between 4 to 14 students.
Capoeira stands apart from traditional martial arts like Karate or Judo. Instead of rigid forms and direct combat, Capoeira uses music, rhythm, and flowing movement. It focuses on dodging, creativity, and expression rather than force-on-force techniques. Played in a lively roda, it feels less like a fight and more like a powerful, rhythmic conversation of movement.
